"In what can only be considered a bizarre court case, a former nuclear safety officer and others are suing the U.S. Department of Energy, Fermilab, the National Science Foundation and CERN to stop the use of the LHC (Large Hadron Collider) until its safety is reassessed. The plaintiffs cite three possible 'doomsday' scenarios which might occur if the LHC becomes operational: the creation of microscopic black holes which would grow and swallow matter, the creation of strangelets which, if they touch other matter, would convert that matter into strangelets or the creation of magnetic monopoles which could start a chain reaction and convert atoms to other forms of matter. CERN will hold a public open house meeting on April 6 with word having been spread to some researchers to be prepared to answer questions on microscopic black holes and strangelets if asked."

Last December I passed a paper along to Razib showing that high-school age adolescents with higher IQs and extremely low IQs were less likely to have had first intercourse than those with average to below average intelligence. (i.e. for males with IQs under 70, 63.3% were still virgins, for those with IQs between 70-90 only 50.2% were virgin, 58.6% were virgins with IQs between 90-110, and 70.3% with IQs over 110 were virgins) In fact, a more detailed study from 2000 is devoted strictly to this topic, and finds the same thing: Smart Teens Don't Have Sex (or Kiss Much Either).

Roma - L'intervista rilasciata da Elton John al Sun sta facendo il giro del Mondo: uno dei personaggi più noti della musica contemporanea si è detto convinto che Internet, ben lungi dall'essere un mezzo di sviluppo per la socialità, si sta rivelando una minaccia, una minaccia che va chiusa. Ed è una minaccia anche per la musica.

Internet, ha detto infatti Elton John, "blocca le persone, non le fa uscire e incontrarsi con altri, creando cose insieme. Invece si sta a casa, si produce la propri musica, che a volte è OK ma non funziona in una visione artistica di lungo periodo. Porta ad un vicolo cieco".

Secondo la rockstar la gente dovrebbe "uscire di casa, comunicare" ma anche "scendere in strada, marciare e protestare anziché stare a casa e scrivere in un blog". "Credo - ha poi dichiarato - che sarebbe un incredibile esperimento chiudere l'intera Internet per cinque anni e vedere quale tipo di produzione artistica si sviluppa in quel periodo".

A detta di Elton John "c'è una disponibilità di troppa tecnologia".

Va detto che John, che ha compiuto 60 anni quest'anno, ha mandato in streaming live su Internet il concerto del suo "compleanno" e ha anche annunciato che entro la fine del 2007 l'intero catalogo della propria musica si potrà acquistare online.
